Punjab Approves Biogas Plants in Lahore and Faisalabad to Boost Clean Energy

The Government of Punjab has approved the construction of four biogas plants in Lahore and two in Faisalabad as part of efforts to promote clean and renewable energy. The plants will convert organic waste into sustainable energy, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels while lowering environmental pollution. Officials say the initiative supports Pakistan’s green energy and climate change mitigation goals, alongside improving urban waste management systems. The project is expected to generate electricity, create new employment opportunities, and strengthen local infrastructure. Authorities have emphasized the role of public-private partnerships to ensure efficient execution and long-term sustainability. The move is seen as a step toward energy diversification and environmentally responsible urban development.
