NEPRA Notifies Rs0.93 Per Unit Power Tariff Reduction for January Bills

Pakistan’s power regulator, NEPRA, has issued a notification announcing a reduction of Rs0.93 per unit in electricity prices under the November fuel price adjustment. The relief will be reflected in January electricity bills for consumers across the country, including Karachi, though lifeline consumers are excluded. In parallel, the government has approved a levy on captive power plants under IMF conditions, with proceeds aimed at further reducing electricity tariffs for consumers. The levy will be imposed gradually, starting at 5 percent and increasing to 20 percent by August. Authorities say the collected amount will be transferred to consumers on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. The move is expected to lower overall power costs, easing household expenses and reducing operational costs for businesses and construction-related activities.
