Punjab advancing development works in 51 cities under PDP, major drainage upgrades planned

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique chaired a review meeting on the Punjab Development Program, highlighting progress in 51 cities. Officials reported extensive use of machinery for sewer cleaning and drainage improvement, while underground water tanks are being prioritized before the monsoon season. The plan includes construction of 220 kilometers of stormwater drains, rehabilitation of 3,500 kilometers of sewer lines, and development of 250 kilometers of new sewerage infrastructure. Additionally, 198 water tanks will store up to 63 million gallons of rainwater. Authorities also aim to upgrade and build disposal stations powered by solar energy to reduce costs and enhance urban flood management across Punjab.
