Over 50% High-Rise Buildings in Islamabad Lack Complete Fire Safety Systems

ISLAMABAD: More than 50 percent of high-rise buildings in the federal capital lack complete fire safety systems, sources revealed following an initial survey conducted by the Capital Development Authority. Buildings taller than 15 meters were classified as high-rise structures, with over 500 such buildings identified across Islamabad. The survey found serious violations of building safety laws in both public and private properties, including the absence of basic equipment such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and fire hose reels. Sources said fire safety arrangements remain ineffective in areas including F-11, F-10, G-13, G-14, Golra Mor, Karachi Company, and even parts of the Red Zone, while only a few buildings in Blue Area were found satisfactory. The CDA’s Building Control Section is responsible for fire safety inspections.
