Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is working on a time-based electronic parking system at seven locations in the federal capital. CDA officials told the Senate Standing Committee on Interior that the system will digitally record how long a vehicle remains parked and monitor applicable parking charges through an electronic dashboard.
Under the proposed system, parking management will move further toward digital monitoring rather than relying only on conventional fee collection. CDA has already been expanding cashless and QR-code-based payments as part of its broader plan to make Islamabad a more digitally managed city.
CDA Director General Enforcement Anum Fatima told the Senate committee that the Blue Area Parking Plaza has been completed and that cashless and QR-code payments are being used for parking transactions. The plaza’s development is also supported by CDA’s August 2026 auction record, which included constructed shops inside the facility.
The Senate committee also revealed that CDA generated around Rs650 million during the last two years from seven auctioned parking spaces and questioned how the revenue was being used and how parking sites were being maintained. Senator Abid Sher Ali also raised concerns over roadside parking charges and suggested that new commercial plazas should provide adequate underground parking before receiving NOCs.
