Karachi: A new storm-water drain on IB Soomro Road in Sohrab Goth Town, District East, has reached around 80% completion, according to the latest site update shared by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab. Once the drainage work is completed, authorities plan to construct a dual carriageway along the corridor.
The scheme is part of Karachi’s wider infrastructure programme. Official KDA tender records identify it as “Construction and Rehabilitation of Storm Water Drain including Road at I.B. Soomro Road, Maymar, Karachi” under ADP No. 1938 of 2025-26.
The Sindh government’s development review placed the estimated cost of the IB Soomro Road storm-water drain and road scheme at Rs1.350994 billion, or roughly Rs1.35 billion.
The drainage system is intended to address a long-standing lack of storm-water disposal in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Importantly, the 80% figure applies to the drain, while the planned dual carriageway is the next stage and should not yet be presented as completed.
