New Karachi chairman alleges water theft amid worsening city shortage

Karachi: New Karachi Chairman Muhammad Yousaf has alleged large-scale water theft in Gulshan-e-Maymar and New Karachi, claiming illegal connections are worsening the city’s already serious water shortage. He urged Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab to take immediate action against those involved and ensure fair water distribution for residents. According to Yousaf, thousands of households are being deprived of basic water needs due to illegal practices and weak monitoring. He called for a crackdown on the water mafia, stronger surveillance, and improved distribution systems across affected areas. Water supply issues directly impact housing demand, property value, public health, and investor confidence in urban communities. Can stricter enforcement improve Karachi’s water governance?
