Lahore: Lahore Railway Station has received a major exterior upgrade, with the parking area in front of the historic station remodelled and Lahore’s first colourful dancing fountain installed as part of the surrounding urban-regeneration programme. LDA officials say the fountain rises more than 100 feet and became operational around the Independence Day celebrations.
The parking upgrade was originally designed to accommodate roughly 250 to 300 vehicles, along with improved access arrangements intended to reduce congestion and make arrival at the railway station easier for passengers. The broader scheme also included landscaping and public-space improvements around the station.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq inspected the remodelled station area in August and reviewed the newly installed dancing fountain. He also directed officials to complete remaining finishing work, improve traffic signage and provide better seating and facilities for porters and visitors.
The station upgrade forms part of Punjab’s wider beautification programme for central Lahore, which has also included works around Data Darbar, Bhati Chowk and Circular Road.
