Karachi: A 35 million gallons per day (MGD) secondary sewage treatment facility at TP-1 Haroonabad has been made operational and has been running on a test basis since last week, according to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s latest update. He also said another 65 MGD treatment facility is under construction at the same site, which would take the added capacity to 100 MGD once completed.
The latest development follows earlier official targets for TP-1. In March, the Sindh government approved Rs5 billion to partially operationalise 30–35 MGD of secondary wastewater treatment at TP-1, while later updates set a broader goal of expanding capacity toward 100 MGD.
