Lahore: The city administration and Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) are moving to organise rickshaw parking by directing drivers toward designated stands instead of allowing vehicles to wait along traffic lanes and busy road edges. The latest on-ground update says dedicated rickshaw spaces have begun appearing at selected locations in Lahore.
The move fits an earlier Punjab government policy direction. In May 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed administrations to establish model rickshaw stands in cities as part of wider urban-management, anti-encroachment and road-improvement measures.
Unregulated roadside rickshaw parking has previously been identified as one factor obstructing traffic movement in Lahore. City traffic authorities have also instructed officials to prevent unnecessary rickshaw stands and roadside obstructions at sensitive locations such as hospital emergency gates.
The intended benefit of designated stands is straightforward: drivers receive a fixed waiting area, passengers get a clearer pickup point, and rickshaws are less likely to occupy active traffic lanes. However, a fresh MCL notification listing the exact number and locations of newly established stands was not located during this check.
