CDA Launches Islamabad’s First Car-Free Blue Area Project

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched Islamabad’s first car-free pedestrian zone in the Blue Area, aiming to promote a modern, walkable urban lifestyle. The Rs. 240 million project, spanning 800 meters from Savour Foods to Khyber Plaza, will feature walking streets, open-air dining, and digital installations. The zone will offer parking for over 1,000 vehicles — 950 in nearby plazas and 150 near Khyber Plaza — ensuring accessibility while keeping the main stretch traffic-free. To enhance comfort, electric carts will assist the elderly and children, while LED screens will display public information and entertainment.
Officials said the project will serve as a pilot model for future smart and pedestrian-friendly urban zones in Islamabad.
