Sindh water shortage sparks stronger farmer protests

Ghotki: Farmer protests have intensified in parts of Sindh, especially Ghotki and Ubauro, over the severe shortage of canal water, as growers warn that standing crops are now under serious threat. According to local farmers, delayed and insufficient irrigation supplies are disrupting agricultural activity and putting hundreds of acres of sugarcane and cotton at risk of drying out. They say immediate and fair distribution of water is essential to prevent heavy financial losses and protect the current crop cycle. Agricultural experts note that both sugarcane and cotton require consistent watering during key growth stages, and any prolonged disruption can sharply reduce yields. If the shortage continues, how badly could Sindh’s rural economy and farm income be affected?
