Islamabad: Pakistan has reportedly suffered more than $1.4 billion in trade and transit losses after the closure of the Afghan border disrupted major export routes and regional supply chains. Officials shared the figures during a briefing to a parliamentary committee, saying the shutdown and wider regional tensions have severely affected exports and transit trade. More than 7,500 containers remain stranded at ports and border points, while exporters are facing delays in moving goods to Afghanistan and onward to Central Asia. Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan also fell sharply to $85.6 million by April 2026, compared with $818 million during the same period last year. Can restoring regional connectivity help recover Pakistan’s lost export momentum?
