Sindh CM Approves Timeline for South Asia’s Longest River Bridge

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved a new timeline to complete the long-delayed Ghotki–Kandhkot road and bridge project—now redesigned as a 12.2-kilometer structure, making it South Asia’s longest river bridge. Work had previously halted due to threats from katcha-area bandits, but construction has now resumed. During the 49th PPP Board meeting, the CM reviewed progress, rising costs, and security challenges, and directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted work. Although documents list June 2029 as the completion date, Shah vowed to inaugurate the bridge by June 2027, calling it a new economic artery for Sindh. Officials reported significant progress: piling is 54% complete, shafts 49%, and transoms 47%. The PPP Board also approved Pakistan’s first plasma fractionation facility, enabling local production of critical plasma-derived medicines and attracting foreign investment under the new National Blood Transfusion & Products Policy (2025–30).
