Punjab to expand model village program to 7,500 villages

Punjab: The government is considering expanding the “Model Village” program to 7,500 villages under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials stated that Phase One of the project is estimated to cost Rs555 billion, with Rs150 billion expected to be allocated in the 2026–27 budget. Currently, 485 villages have been included, with development work already underway in 302 locations. The initiative aims to improve rural infrastructure by developing streets, drainage systems, parks and water supply schemes. Authorities also plan to restore traditional village ponds and introduce a monitoring dashboard to track progress. The project is part of the broader “Sohna Punjab” vision to bring urban-level facilities to rural areas.
