Punjab considers early summer vacations amid heatwave

Lahore: Punjab’s Education Minister has said the province is considering summer vacations in schools from May 22 to August 2 due to intense heatwave conditions. Authorities are reviewing multiple options while keeping student safety, extreme temperatures, and academic continuity in mind. Officials added that the final decision will be announced after consultations with relevant departments and a detailed assessment of weather conditions. The move matters because heatwaves directly affect school attendance, child health, transport movement, and daily family routines. Early vacations can reduce health risks for students and staff, while also impacting private school operations, transport services, and surrounding commercial activity. Can timely planning protect students without disrupting the academic calendar?
