Pakistan sets major Kharif crop targets for 2026

Islamabad: The Federal Committee on Agriculture has set major production targets for Kharif crops for the year 2026, focusing on increasing output of rice, maize, sugarcane and cotton. Officials stated that the targets are part of a broader strategy to meet domestic food requirements and boost agricultural exports. According to official data, rice production is targeted at 9.17 million tons, maize at 9.77 million tons, sugarcane at 80.3 million tons and cotton at 9.64 million bales. Authorities highlighted that improved water availability, favorable weather conditions and timely supply of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides will support these goals. Experts believe that achieving these targets can strengthen the agricultural sector, increase farmers’ income and contribute to economic stability through higher exports.
