Punjab, Pakistan Railways sign MoU to launch fast trains and regional routes

Lahore: The Punjab government and Pakistan Railways have signed a landmark MoU to modernize rail transport, introducing fast trains and multiple regional routes across the province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi formalized the agreement, under which Lahore to Rawalpindi fast train will complete the journey in just over two hours. The plan includes eight local routes covering over 1,400 kilometers, with modern DMU trains, upgraded coaches, and new engines. Officials also highlighted beautification of railway stations, development of parking facilities, and plantation along tracks. Authorities stated that the project aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide European-standard transport facilities to millions across Punjab.
