OGRA clears major furnace oil export plan

Karachi: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved the export of a combined 140,000 tonnes of furnace oil by Cnergyico and PARCO. The approval is expected to help both refineries reduce excess inventories, improve storage management, and enhance operational efficiency. Industry experts believe the move will support refinery sustainability while generating valuable foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan. The development comes as local demand for furnace oil remains limited due to a growing shift toward alternative energy sources and changing power generation patterns. Improved refinery performance can strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector and encourage future investments in downstream petroleum infrastructure. Could this approval signal a broader strategy to boost energy exports and refinery modernization?
