LHC seeks report on local government rules in LG elections case

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has sought a report within ten days regarding local government rules in a case concerning the conduct of local government elections on a party basis. Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad heard petitions filed by PTI leaders Muhammad Ejaz Shafee and Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood. During the hearing, the court also requested details about administrative and financial powers of local representatives. Lawyers informed the court that rules related to delimitations of union councils have already been prepared and forwarded to the provincial cabinet for approval. Petitioners argued that delaying elections or holding them on a non-party basis would undermine democratic governance and local representation.
