Karachi: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) have signed an agreement for the Dumlottee dedicated water pipeline, a major project aimed at improving water supply to DHA and Clifton. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said construction is expected to begin next week and the project has a targeted completion period of around 12 months.
The project is designed to provide an additional 10 million gallons of water per day (10 MGD) to the two areas. Earlier approved plans describe a roughly 36-kilometre dedicated pipeline, along with a pumping station, forebay and filtration facilities.
The Sindh cabinet revised the project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction cost from Rs10.56 billion to Rs14.237 billion in July 2026. Officials said the increase reflected changes in engineering design and pipeline material, taxes, inflation, filtration facilities, monitoring systems and other requirements.
If completed according to the announced plan, the dedicated line is expected to improve piped water availability in DHA and Clifton and reduce some of the areas’ dependence on tanker supplies.
