Karachi Begins Installing Safety Nets Inside Manholes to Prevent Accidents

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has launched a pilot project to install protective safety nets inside manhole covers as a preventive measure against accidents. According to details shared by the Mayor of Karachi, the initiative has started on Tariq Road and will gradually be extended to other parts of the city in phases.

The safety nets are designed to provide an additional protective barrier if a manhole cover is displaced, damaged or removed. Authorities say the net has undergone testing and can support up to 180 kilograms of weight. The project aims to reduce the risk of people falling into open manholes and improve public safety on Karachi’s roads and streets. Its wider expansion will depend on the progress and results of the initial implementation.
