Dubai Airport’s New Scanners Could End the Laptop-and-Liquids Shuffle at Security

Dubai: Dubai International Airport (DXB) is gradually introducing advanced security scanners that allow passengers to keep laptops, liquids and other permitted items inside their hand luggage during screening. Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths says the new equipment is already being installed as older security machines are replaced across the airport.

More than 100 hand-luggage screening machines were targeted for upgrade during 2026, with several advanced units already operating earlier this year. The technology uses more sophisticated scanning and AI-assisted analysis to identify bags requiring additional checks, helping make the process faster and less intrusive.

However, the upgrade is being rolled out gradually, meaning passengers should not assume the new procedure is available at every DXB security lane yet.
