Zamzama Cannon: Lahore’s iconic symbol of history and power

Lahore: The historic Zamzama Cannon, one of the largest artillery pieces of its time, remains a significant landmark on Mall Road outside Lahore Museum. Commissioned by Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1757 and completed under Shah Wali Khan, the cannon was famously used in the Third Battle of Panipat. Over time, it passed through various rulers including Sikh leaders and Maharaja Ranjit Singh before falling under British control. Eventually placed as a public monument, it symbolizes Lahore’s rich historical transitions. Today, it stands near key landmarks including Punjab University Old Campus and Nasir Bagh, attracting visitors and reflecting the city’s deep cultural and historical heritage.
