Jeddah: Saudi Arabia’s under-construction Jeddah Tower has reached 454 metres and 113 floors, marking its latest major construction milestone. The figure is confirmed by the tower’s architect Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), which published the update on September 3, 2026. Construction Briefing separately reported the same 454-metre and 113-floor milestone.
The development has revived the big question: could Dubai’s Burj Khalifa eventually lose its crown? For now, the answer is not yet. Burj Khalifa remains the world’s tallest completed building at 828 metres, while Jeddah Tower is still only at 454 metres and remains under construction.
What makes Jeddah Tower a serious challenger is its planned final height. AS+GG says the building will rise more than 1,000 metres, which would make it at least 173 metres taller than Burj Khalifa once completed as designed. It is planned as a mixed-use tower with hotel, office, serviced apartment, residential and observation facilities.
At 454 metres, the Saudi skyscraper has already surpassed Malaysia’s 452-metre Petronas Towers, former holders of the world’s tallest-building title. Saudi Binladin Group Senior Executive Project Director Ian Norman Miller said construction has recently been progressing at roughly one floor every five days.
There is also an unusual architectural connection between the two rivals: Adrian Smith, who designed Burj Khalifa while at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, is also the lead architect behind Jeddah Tower through AS+GG.
Jeddah Tower’s construction was revived after years of delays. In October 2024, Kingdom Holding Company announced that Jeddah Economic Company had signed a SAR7.2 billion agreement with Saudi Binladin Group to complete the tower, with an anticipated 42-month construction period. The official announcement also confirms the tower’s planned height of more than 1,000 metres.
Recent construction reporting points to 2028 as the current completion target, though megaproject schedules can still change. Until Jeddah Tower is completed and reaches its planned height, Burj Khalifa keeps the world title.
