Punjab Replaces 20kg Flour Bags, Tightens Food Supply Controls

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting to review food prices, wheat cultivation and the supply of essential commodities. The provincial government decided to discontinue 20kg flour bags and allow only 10kg bags in the market. Authorities were directed to strengthen surveillance at interprovincial borders to prevent wheat and flour smuggling. Deputy commissioners were instructed to achieve wheat cultivation targets and ensure wheat sowing on available government land. The meeting also approved the expansion of Mandi Marts after Punjab’s first fruit and vegetable Mandi Mart was launched in Kahna. A dehydration project under PAMRA will support the availability of fruits and vegetables during the off-season. District administrations were asked to arrange adequate stocks of bananas, apples and dates at controlled prices before Ramadan. The government also ordered effective regulation of loose milk sales according to hygiene and food-safety standards. These decisions are intended to improve food availability, control prices and strengthen Punjab’s agricultural supply system.
