Smog-Free Punjab Drive Shows Improvement

Punjab’s “Smog-Free Punjab” campaign is beginning to show strong results as air pollution levels drop across major cities. Lahore recorded an AQI of 291, a significant improvement compared to New Delhi’s dangerously high **647. According to Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, EPA teams inspected hundreds of vehicles on motorways and checked **102 brick kilns. Out of these, **87 kilns were operating with zigzag technology and emitting no black smoke, while only one kiln violated standards and was fined Rs. 100,000.
Daily water sprinkling on major city roads is helping reduce dust levels, while traffic police continue action against smoke-emitting vehicles. Authorities are also closely monitoring construction sites, machinery zones, and excavation areas to prevent dust pollution and ensure cleaner air across the province.
