Punjab reviews wheat procurement, ensures transparency

Staff Reporter Lahore: Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr. Kiran Khurshid conducted surprise visits to wheat procurement centers in Muridke, Kamoke, Sheikhupura and Gujranwala to review ongoing arrangements. Officials stated that the purpose of the visit was to ensure transparency, efficiency and smooth registration of farmers.

Authorities highlighted that wheat procurement is being carried out at a fixed rate of Rs 3,500 per maund, in line with government policy. Farmers and aggregators were consulted, and officials were directed to resolve their issues immediately and avoid delays in the process.

Experts believe that improved transparency and timely procurement will support farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural supply system.
