Punjab reviews monsoon drainage plans to protect urban areas

Lahore: A review meeting was held in Punjab to assess drainage arrangements during the monsoon season, where Housing Minister Bilal Yasin declared timely removal of rainwater from urban areas a top priority. Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and DG WASA Punjab Tayyab Fareed briefed the meeting on ongoing development work and operational plans. The minister directed special monitoring of low-lying areas, full activation of disposal stations, machinery, generators, control rooms, helplines, and emergency response teams. Field officers were also instructed to conduct continuous visits and monitor the situation directly. Strong drainage planning can reduce urban flooding, protect roads, support businesses, and improve residential confidence during heavy rainfall. Can timely WASA action keep Punjab’s cities safer this monsoon?
