Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Traffic Violations

Punjab Police has intensified enforcement of traffic laws across the province under the directives of IG Punjab Abdul Kareem. In 2026, more than 3.96 million driving licenses have been issued, while over 4.35 million challans were issued for traffic violations, generating fines exceeding Rs 888 crore. Authorities have also penalized 42,535 vehicles for smoke emissions, sealed 6,693 vehicles in police stations, and confiscated 28 fitness certificates. IG Punjab has directed strict enforcement of amended traffic regulations, reforms, and modern systems, ensuring compliance without exception. Overloading, speeding, underage driving, and one-way violations will continue to be targeted, while SHO and SDPO teams are tasked with managing traffic flow and preventing accidents. Measures to recover fines from defaulters are also underway.
