Maryam Nawaz Expands Ration Card Support for 1.2 Million Punjab Workers

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the continuation and expansion of the workers’ ration card programme for the 2026–27 financial year. According to the provincial government’s update, more than 1.2 million registered workers have so far received around Rs28 billion through the Maryam Nawaz Ration Card, while an additional Rs43.2 billion is planned for distribution during the current year. The number of registered workers in Punjab has reportedly risen to 1,403,063, of whom 1,244,130 have received ration cards, while another 4,984 cards are being printed. Beneficiaries can purchase essential goods worth Rs3,000 per month from nearly 62,000 registered shops across the province. More than 100,000 Suthra Punjab workers are also benefiting from the programme.
