Punjab Moves to Remove Export Barriers for Potato and Kinnow Growers

The Government of Punjab has assured farmers of concrete steps to ease export-related challenges faced by potato and kinnow growers. Speaking at a special Agriculture Commission meeting in Lahore, Punjab’s Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said the province is fully aware of growers’ concerns and is acting on the Chief Minister’s directives to remove bottlenecks. He informed participants that the provincial government has approached the federal authorities to seek reductions in freight costs for exports via Iran. The minister highlighted that Punjab accounts for around 95 percent of the country’s potato and kinnow production and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ livelihoods through coordination with federal agencies and stakeholders.
