Punjab Launches Pakistan’s First Electric Green Policing Unit

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Pakistan’s first Green Policing Unit, introducing electric vehicles for police patrolling in Lahore. The chief minister inspected the electric patrol car and personally test-drove the vehicle. Officials briefed her on the unit’s features, including a 410-kilometer range per charge and fast charging capability from 30 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. The electric patrol vehicle is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, police lights, a 360-degree camera, and speed detection tools. Authorities said conventional patrol vehicles consume about 28,000 liters of fuel monthly, costing Rs7.42 million, while electric vehicles will save fuel, reduce operational costs, and ensure zero carbon emissions, marking a major step toward environmentally friendly policing.
