Lahore: Major work under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Lahore Development Programme (LDP) has transformed neighbourhood-level infrastructure across the city. According to the latest APP review, Phase I and Phase II have been completed, covering 16,500 streets spanning around 1,800 kilometres.
Alongside street paving and rehabilitation, authorities laid approximately 741 kilometres of new sewer lines and constructed 12 new disposal stations to improve drainage and address long-standing sewerage problems in residential localities. Another 75 pieces of machinery were added for urban-flood response.
The programme also included installation and maintenance of 22,423 streetlights. Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said the project reached neighbourhoods where development work had previously remained limited, while officials were instructed to finish the remaining minor works and ensure maintenance of completed schemes.
A further Phase III has separately been planned to address remaining drainage and water-supply gaps in Nishtar Town, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Ravi Town and Wagah Town.
