Punjab approves Rs 3bn plan to curb smog with fog cannon systems

Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a Rs 3 billion initiative aimed at reducing smog and air pollution across major urban and industrial areas. Under the plan, 30 modern fog cannon systems mounted on electric trucks will be deployed to control dust and harmful airborne particles. Officials said the project is part of the broader Clean Air and Climate Resilient Strategy and the Lahore Air Improvement Framework. An amount of Rs 2.25 billion has been earmarked for integrated programmes in Lahore, including real-time pollution monitoring through a Super Station System and a “One City, One Policy” model. Authorities have also installed over 50 air quality monitors and upgraded environmental labs to strengthen digital tracking and transparent reporting of industrial emissions.
