Punjab approves Daducha Dam water treatment and supply project for Rawalpindi, completion targeted by December 2029

Rawalpindi: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the construction of a surface water treatment plant and associated water supply system at Daducha Dam, aimed at strengthening the city’s drinking-water infrastructure. According to available information, the project is targeted for completion by December 2029. The proposed infrastructure will enable surface water from the dam to be treated and supplied for urban consumption, potentially helping Rawalpindi address its growing water requirements. The project is significant for the city as continued population growth and urban expansion are increasing pressure on existing water resources and municipal infrastructure. Once completed, the new treatment and supply system could improve access to treated water while supporting the long-term development of residential and commercial areas.
