Punjab advances shrimp farming mega project to convert barren land into economic zones

Lahore: The Punjab government has made significant progress on large-scale shrimp farming projects aimed at converting barren land into productive economic zones. Under the initiative, major developments have been achieved in Sargodha Shrimp Estate, Ali Wala, and Shah Garh projects, including pond excavation, water supply systems, drainage infrastructure, and road networks. Officials reported that over 90 percent of work has been completed on key components such as tube wells, warehouses, and electrification. The projects, covering hundreds of acres, utilize modern aquaculture techniques and are expected to boost exports, generate employment, and strengthen the province’s blue economy. Authorities aim to position Punjab as a leading hub for aquaculture development.
