Pakistan’s e-passport production technology has attracted attention following a widely circulated claim that an e-passport can be prepared in just nine seconds. However, the reported nine-second figure should not be confused with the complete passport application and issuance process. Official passport procedures still involve required documents, biometric and application processing, approval, printing and dispatch stages.
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports says e-passport issuance is available through field offices nationwide. Pakistan’s electronic passport system incorporates modern biometric and digital security technology aimed at strengthening document security and identity verification. While faster passport production technology may improve printing capacity, no official DGIP information reviewed publicly confirms that a citizen can apply for and receive a completed e-passport within nine seconds.
