Islamabad: Pakistan is set to establish its first European Union Aviation Safety Agency-approved Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility at Islamabad International Airport, along with a new aircraft maintenance hangar and full-flight simulator centre. The projects are being developed under the Ministry of Defence’s Aviation Sector Transformation Programme to strengthen domestic aviation capabilities. Officials say the initiative will support aircraft engineering, maintenance services, technical training, and pilot capacity building within the country. A certified MRO facility can reduce dependence on foreign maintenance services, improve airline efficiency, and create skilled aviation jobs. It may also strengthen airport infrastructure, investment confidence, and Pakistan’s position in regional aviation services. Can this project transform Pakistan’s aviation engineering sector?
