Pakistan Plans Fully Digital E-Passport Applications and Home Delivery

Pakistan is moving toward a fully digital e-passport system that would allow citizens to submit applications online, upload supporting documents, pay fees digitally and receive passports at home. The planned service is expected to be integrated with NADRA’s PakID platform as part of wider reforms to modernise passport services and reduce visits to government offices.

Pakistan already issues e-passports containing an embedded electronic chip and advanced security features. DGIP also provides online fee payment and limited home-delivery services, while online passport renewal is currently available for eligible applicants.

However, the complete end-to-end system is still being introduced in phases. Applicants inside Pakistan, especially first-time adult applicants, may still be required to visit a passport office for biometric verification or other procedures. Therefore, reports suggesting that every citizen can already complete all passport steps through PakID and receive the document at home should be treated as a future rollout rather than a fully available nationwide service.
