Lahore: The Punjab government has ordered departments to stop digging up or damaging newly constructed roads, in a move aimed at ending the cycle of fresh roads being cut open again for sewerage, utility or other works. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued the directive during a meeting reviewing development schemes funded through Own Source Revenue (OSR) across the province. Departments have also been told to coordinate their work before roads are completed so repeated excavation can be avoided. The instructions go beyond excavation. Every new road must have proper roadside drainage, lane markings and signage, while manholes and sewerage covers are to remain level with the road surface. The meeting also approved road, sewerage, beautification, solar-lighting and other development schemes across Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad divisions.
