Lahore: Punjab has ordered departments to stop repeatedly digging up newly constructed roads, targeting a long-standing problem where fresh asphalt is cut again for sewerage, water, electricity or other utility works. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed all relevant departments to coordinate their projects before a road is completed, so underground work does not damage newly built infrastructure. The new instructions also require manholes and sewer covers to remain level with road surfaces, while every new road should have proper drainage, lane markings and signage. The same meeting approved multiple OSR-funded development schemes across Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad divisions.
