Lahore traffic police acts against 1,823 beggars

Lahore: City Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown against beggars at traffic signals on the orders of CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi. During the current year, action has been taken against 1,823 beggars, while 506 cases were registered against habitual beggars and those using fake disability to seek sympathy. Traffic police removed 755 women, 592 men, 155 children, and more than 300 transgender persons from signals. Officials also shifted 1,713 beggars to Edhi Homes and handed over 22 children to Child Protection authorities. The operation matters because begging at busy intersections affects traffic flow, road safety, and public order. Can sustained enforcement improve Lahore’s signal management and commuter safety?
