Lahore launches major projects to tackle urban flooding, storage capacity increased

Lahore: Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal reviewed ongoing development projects aimed at eliminating urban flooding in key areas including Lakshmi Chowk and Nisbat Road. Officials stated that underground water storage tanks are being constructed with capacity increased from 3 to 4 million gallons, along with two recharge wells to improve groundwater management. Around 40% work has been completed so far. Authorities added that excess rainwater from nearby areas will be collected through underground pipelines. The visit also included inspection of the Data Darbar urban regeneration project, where expansion, underpass construction and parking facilities are underway. The initiative aims to enhance drainage systems, reduce flooding risks and improve urban infrastructure in Lahore.
