Lahore: Punjab’s Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, being developed on 333 kanals near Pine Avenue Road, is moving towards its operational stage, with the government promising free treatment for cancer patients, including those with advanced-stage disease. The institute is ultimately designed as a 915-bed comprehensive cancer facility, with treatment, diagnostics, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, bone-marrow services and palliative care planned on one campus.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz laid the foundation stone on October 30, 2024. The project is being developed in phases, and its latest federally reviewed cost has risen to around Rs74.92 billion.
Punjab officials have repeatedly stated that no cancer patient should be refused treatment because of the stage of disease or inability to pay.
