Karachi: Hutchison Ports Pakistan has successfully secured an additional 4,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of transshipment cargo at a major Karachi container terminal. This shift is due to disruptions in global shipping routes caused by regional tensions in the Gulf involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The rerouting has increased shipping risks, insurance costs, and freight charges, making Pakistan an attractive alternative hub. Two vessels carrying the new cargo have already docked, while a third is expected in the first week of June. This development strengthens Pakistan’s strategic position in regional maritime trade and could positively impact the economy.
