Islamabad moves closer to a world-class cricket stadium near Margalla Hills

Islamabad: The plan to build the capital’s first world-class cricket stadium has entered its final stage, with the Capital Development Authority preparing to award the Rs. 11.4 billion construction contract soon. The 32,000-seat stadium will be built near Sector D-12 on 50 acres of land, forming part of the larger 175-acre Olympic Village project near the foothills of Margalla Hills. Officials say the project will be completed under the EPC model in collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board, and construction is expected to begin soon after the contract is issued. Once completed, the venue could host international matches, PSL fixtures, and major sporting events. Can this project reshape Islamabad’s sports economy and urban appeal?
