Heavy Rain Damages Islamabad’s Iconic Shaheen Chowk Eagle Monument

Heavy rain in Islamabad has damaged the iconic eagle monument installed at the Shaheen Chowk Underpass, with images and videos of the collapsed decorative structure circulating online. The monument, featuring a large eagle above a globe-like structure, was a prominent feature of the busy junction where Khayaban-e-Iqbal, also known as Margalla Road, meets 9th Avenue. The underpass project was initially estimated at Rs1.3 billion, while its scope was later expanded and the underpass barrel extended from 56 metres to 85 metres. The project was completed in 63 days and opened to traffic on December 31, 2025. The latest rain-related damage has raised questions over the durability and maintenance of decorative structures linked to major public infrastructure projects.
