HALE Drones Enable Long-Endurance Solar-Powered Surveillance

Islamabad: High-altitude long-endurance (HALE) drones are advancing aerospace capabilities by offering continuous surveillance and atmospheric research from the stratosphere. Operating at around 20 kilometers above ground, these drones function as pseudo-satellites with a wide monitoring range. Powered by solar energy, they generate electricity during the day and store it in batteries for nighttime use, enabling operations for extended periods. Their ability to remain over a fixed location enhances data continuity for environmental monitoring, disaster response, and border security. With innovations in lightweight materials and efficient solar cells, HALE drones are emerging as a cost-effective alternative to traditional satellite systems.
