Govt Allows Telecom Towers on Any Property, Rs5 Crore Fine for Refusal

Islamabad: The federal government has introduced the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which allows licensed telecom companies to install mobile towers and fiber-optic cables on both public and private properties. Property owners, lessees, or tenants who refuse or delay the installation without reasonable cause may face a fine of up to Rs50 million (5 crore). The bill, already passed by the National Assembly and now under review in the Senate, aims to accelerate the expansion of 5G, broadband, and digital connectivity across Pakistan. While the move is expected to boost internet services and economic growth, it has raised concerns among citizens regarding private property rights.
